Spondylolisthesis is the forward displacement of one vertebra over the adjacent vertebra. It may develop because of age-related degeneration or structural factors.
Symptoms
Lower-back pain, leg symptoms that worsen with standing and walking, numbness and a reduced walking distance may occur.
Choosing treatment
Spondylolisthesis does not always require surgery. Examination findings, dynamic X-rays and MRI are assessed together to evaluate spinal balance and nerve compression.
When is surgery considered?
Surgical options may be considered when there are progressive neurological findings, persistent pain that significantly affects quality of life or spinal instability.
